Hatteras rental home booking tips and tricks:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by having your group select dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Dog-friendly house with tennis, private pool, hot tub, & fireplace has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Tips to have a great stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Contact the host immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to inspire more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
