How to find the best Hatteras vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. To find the best value, consider changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and pick the right Hatteras vacation home:
- Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Canal Front Home with a Dock and Hot Tub minutes from the beach! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you book the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is optimal for your trip.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
More tips for your stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
