Tips to get the perfect Hatteras vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Hatteras area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Filter your search:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Waterfront home w\/ private hot tub, sunset views, WiFi, W\/D, & shared pool has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is right for your trip.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect your property!
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
