OCEANFRONT Avon - Ocean Dune Loop - This classic COTTAGE ON THE DUNES, in the roundhouse style, is located at the exclusive south end of Avon, with its own private boardwalk to the beach (shared only with the home next door), and expansive vistas from its striking great room to take in sunrises over the ocean in the East, and colorful sunset skies over the sound in the west. The top floor of the home features a cavernous and comfortable living area looking towards the ocean, opening onto a wrap-around deck, with TV, as well as a separate round table for games and puzzles. The adjacent kitchen and dining area is extremely well appointed, with plenty of cabinets, wide countertop space for preparing meals, seating for six at the kitchen counter, as well as a separate dining room table, looking out towards the sound. Choose from four comfortable bedrooms on the mid-level of the home, including a bright and sunny master bedroom (king) with its own private deck and en-suite bath; a second master bedroom (queen) with en-suite bath, and two bedrooms (queen, 2 single) sharing a common bath. The private hot tub deck is located on this level near the front door. On the ground level is a sizable game room with its own separate entrance, which provides a four-in-one game table (foosball, table tennis, pool and air hockey), enormous screen TV, and convenient wet bar. The full bath on this level features a huge bespoke tiled shower and a sauna. Outside, there are double outside showers, as well as a separate short hose attachment with hot and cold water for rinsing sandy feet and dogs. Come for a stay in this striking COTTAGE ON THE DUNES.

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, shift your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.

  • If there's a specific Hatteras beach you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your contract.

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
