No one enjoys packing their entire home to go on a family vacation, which is why we've designed Once Upon a Tide especially for families with little ones! Only 1 block from the pool, 4 blocks from the beach & overlooking a beautiful (fishable) lake - we have everything you need to appreciate a calming vacation with your family & friends. Our home features a supplied playroom, mini-cribs, blackout window treatments, high chairs, a booster seat & bouncer, safety gates, and so much more!

1st Floor: Playroom outfitted with a train table, play kitchen + accessories, books, board games, floor & age-appropriate jigsaw puzzles, Nugget play couches, doll home + accessories, and more. There is also a storage closet with a wagon.

2nd Floor: Washer/Dryer. Bunk Room (master bedroom) with 2 full-over-full bunk beds and an ensuite bathroom (toilet & shower with handheld shower hose), 2 wardrobes and a closet. 2 King bedrooms with a shared full bathroom (toilet, shower/tub combo). King bedrooms both have dressers, closets, TVs and private access to balcony overlooking the lake. A mini crib is also available. The balcony has 6 Adirondack chairs with accent tables & 2 hammock chairs. All bedrooms have blackout window treatments.

3rd Floor: Master bedroom with a full ensuite bathroom (toilet & shower), mini crib, sizable walk-in closet, and blackout window treatments. A second Washer & Dryer are located in the master closet. Totally supplied kitchen with vaulted ceilings and adjacent dining room overlooking the lake. The dining table has seating for 10 & the bar has seating for 3. There are 2 high chairs & 1 booster seat available. The 3rd floor balcony also overlooks the lake and has a dining table with seating for 10. The comfortable living room has a TV, an abundance of seating & board games for the whole family.

Outside: Parking for 5 cars, Tesla charging station (level 2 charger), charcoal grille, a digger toy for kids, an outdoor shower, rocking chairs, and a deck box filled with beach supplies, games, beach chairs, and a beach umbrella.

The entire home is setup with kids in mind. There are safety features throughout the home, age appropriate toys for kids ages infant to ~10 y/o, games for the whole family, TV's with YoutubeTV + Apps, and more. A list of all kids's amenities will be available prior to your stay.

We have one security camera on the front of the home, and one security camera on the back of the home. These devices will be on during your stay and are only used for security purposes. Private areas are not surveilled. Tampering with cameras is against our rules and will result in immediate eviction from the home.

About the Area

Located in Avon, this vacation home is on the waterfront. The area's natural beauty can be seen at Outer Banks Beaches and Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Traveling with kids? Consider Surf's Up and Hatteras Island Boardsports. Be sure to check out the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To book the best rental within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hatteras restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
