Tricks and tips to get the best Hatteras rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to choose the best rental:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Isle Be Back Coastal Cottage has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
