Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Summertime is high season in Frisco. To find the best value, shift your family's Hatteras trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select a group lead, select your dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Waterfront home with pool, private hot tub, ocean view, W\/D & AC - dog-friendly has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- During arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
