Pelican Point is a traditional Hatteras bungalow that has been completely refreshed, but without losing the simple island appeal reminiscent of the more remote Ocracoke Island, where live oaks stand watch over one-story cottages and modest family cemeteries that tell the story of the island. In fact the bungalow is constructed by the site of the traditional homestead and resting place of some of the original settlers in the area. Their homestead lasted hundreds of years on the high ground by the live oaks, with the land where Pelican Point now stands serving as the family farm and route to the wetlands and sound for hunting and fishing. Although the original homestead has made way for development, some of the descendants still live near Pelican Point and are great neighbors with amazing stories to tell!
To help make your stay as enchanting and casual as possible, we have teamed with Dawn Waldrop a premier property manager and owner of Black Dog Harbor Services (BDHS), based next door to Pelican Point. BDHS will clean and prepare Pelican Point for your arrival; provide bed linens and make the beds; and stock the home with an initial supply of paper towels, toilet paper, dish detergent and trash bags to get you started. BDHS is just a phone call away to take care of any problems or concerns during your stay!
Well-behaved Adult dogs (max. of two) are welcome with payment of non-returnable pet fee ($250 per dog, per stay). No puppies - meaning no dogs under 1 year.

Hatteras rental property booking tips and tricks:
When to visit Salvo & When to book:
- The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental in Salvo:
- Select vacation week and max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Soundfront Sunsets with Private Dock, Kayaks, Large Pool, Hot Tub, Guesthouse has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More considerations:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- At Check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
