Finding the best Hatteras rental experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserve your rental in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area travel guides which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing the perfect vacation home in the Hatteras area:
- Start by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Soundside, 5 min walk to the beach, 6 private decks, shared pool and pickleball has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before booking the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or may be applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the property manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
