Strategies for getting the perfect Hatteras rental experience:
When to visit Avon & When to reserve a Hatteras rental home:
- Summer is high season in Avon. To find the most suitable rental home within your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose the best rental home:
- Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Soundside, 5 min walk to the beach, 6 private decks, shared pool and pickleball has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is optimal for your vacation.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or might be applied to your contract.
Advice for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
