Rental property booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Avon. Booking in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to pick the best rental home in the Hatteras area:
- First and foremost, have your group choose a vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Soundside, 5 min walk to the beach, 6 private decks, shared pool and pickleball has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a particular Hatteras beach you long to visit, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
