Our top Vacation rental home tips:
How to get the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Avon. Booking your Hatteras vacation home in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing the best vacation home:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Spacious pet-friendly home on Hatteras Island w\/ a private pool & hot tub! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation family.
- If there's a certain Hatteras attraction you long to visit, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
