Edna Casey Gray, youngest daughter of Cape Hatteras lighthouse keeper Jim Casey, once regaled many with stories of her youth during the early 1900s on Hatteras Island. Today, on property owned by family descendants, you can catch glimpses of this past while you sit on a cavernous wraparound deck and admire your surroundings.

With a shining remodel complete, guests of this three-bedroom/two- and one-half-bath home can step out of the past and into the present, showcased by broad updates. To name a few, this home has a brand new 3-person hot tub, deck, and kitchen, each of which will be spots ideal for creating lasting memories.

Enter the entryway and discover a bedroom/media room to the right, featuring a double sleeper couch and TV, as well as a desk and office chair for those who need a peaceful spot to work. To the left, is a half-bath and then a master king bedroom with a private bath, walk-in closet, and access to the wrap-around deck.

The place everybody will gravitate to on this level is the two-story great room, along with the adjoining kitchen and dining area. From here it’s simple to access the deck where you won’t be able to resist keeping tabs on nature’s show – from the colors of the sky to the wildlife passing by.

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Frisco. To book the best rental home within your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Hatteras restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
