When to book & When to go:
- Summertime is high season in the Hatteras area. Reserve your rental in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.

- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to inspire future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review.
