Strategies for getting the perfect Avon vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Hatteras area. To book the largest vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Hatteras restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.
How to select the best rental:
- Begin by choosing your trip dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Dogs Welcome, Beach Access, Sun Deck, Covered Deck has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your group.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
