Tips for getting the perfect Avon vacation property experience:

Sticking to your budget:

  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • To book the largest rental for your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Hatteras attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

How to choose and book your prefectvacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your group choose a vacation week and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Dogs Welcome, Beach Access, Sun Deck, Covered Deck has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a certain Hatteras attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
