Salvo vacation rental booking tips:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Hatteras area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have deals for local tours and attractions.
Choosing the best rental home in the Hatteras area:
- Start by having your group choose trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Oceanside Salvo home with large pool and hot tub has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
