Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Hatteras rental home experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your family choose dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Dog-friendly, idyllic beachfront house with private pool, hot tub, AC, & deck has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the host before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation family.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
