Finding the best Hatteras rental experience:

Finding the best value:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the most suitable rental home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hatteras restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose and book a perfectrental:

  • Start by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Oceanfront home with private pool, hot tub, sunrise view, & huge decks - dog-friendly has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If not, call the host before you book your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your family.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • To make certain that no damages are linked to your stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the property manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
