Strategies for getting the perfect Hatteras vacation property experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. To find the best value, try shifting your family's Hatteras vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain coupons for local tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking yourvacation home:
- Start by choosing vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront home - screened porch, private hot tub, outdoor shower & pool access has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the property manager before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
