Strategies to get the perfect vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Summer time is high season in Salvo. Book your Hatteras rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Hatteras area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose a group leader, select your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Oceanfront home in Salvo w\/ rooftop deck has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the host's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
