Booking the best rental experience:
When to reserve a Hatteras rental home & When to go:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best rental within budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hatteras restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Finding the best rental home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Oceanfront home in Salvo w\/ rooftop deck has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Call the rental manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
