OCEANFRONT Avon – Kinnakeet Shores – While the wild, natural beauty of Hatteras Island inspires the imagination, THE SANDLOT enthralls it, with its effortless ability to create family memories that linger long after you leave. Perched on the edge of a pristine Atlantic beach, this handsome six-bedroom/five-and two-half-bath home offers an handsome escape from your everyday life — as it should — when your idea of a dream vacation is to relax with those you appreciate.

Upon arrival, unload the car into the convenient all-level elevator and plot your first foray by the private oceanfront pool. Perhaps you’ll make your way to the beach, knowing that when you return, there are three outdoor showers, two of which are heated, that are going to feel fabulously exhilarating. Inside on the ground level discover a home theater where you can settle into comfortable seating for 15 and stream your family’s favorite movies on the Intelligent projection system with surround sound. A bar area and half-bath are conveniently close by. Also on this level is a master queen bedroom with an ensuite bath featuring a shower/tub and a slider out to the deck.

Along with a four-person hot tub located under cover and protected from the elements on the deck, four more bedrooms occupy the second level. There are two master bedrooms: one with an accessible bathroom featuring a roll-in shower; another with a cavernous shower featuring a rain showerhead and tiled bench. The other two bedrooms are a bunk room with two sets of bunk beds and a room with a queen bed that are connected by a Jack-and-Jill full bathroom.

All the home’s bedrooms feature Intelligent TVs and private deck access. The final bedroom, a master king suite featuring arched ceilings and striking crown molding lighting, is located on the third level and offers a opulent tile shower with multiple shower heads. Steps away is a freshly furnished great room, a magnificently open space accented with wood floors, ceiling fans, and a 65-inch TV. The third level also offers grand vistas of a pristine beachfront from 12 ocean-facing windows or step out directly onto the balcony to take in the sunset vistas over the sound that are destined to leave a memorable imprint. The massive gourmet chef’s kitchen will elicit happy sighs with double wall ovens, two dishwashers, a wine cooler, an over-sized refrigerator, constructed-in undercabinet ice maker and plentiful counter space for preparing and sharing the day’s meals. Along with counter seating for six, two adjacent dining areas — a 10-seat bespoke dining table, and an additional dining nook with four chairs — can accommodate 20 for a family feast.

Step outside onto the deck where there’s a gas grille and cozy furnishings to settle in for an alfresco meal, quality time with a good book, or a sun-soaked nap. When to reserve a Hatteras rental home & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Avon. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection.
