Tips to get the optimal Hatteras rental experience:
When to visit Waves & When to reserve a Waves rental home:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Waves. To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and pick the perfectrental home:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Oceanfront, dog-friendly house with private hot tub, pool, AC, & lovely views has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
