How to get the best Waves vacation rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Summertime is high season in the Hatteras area. To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Oceanfront, dog-friendly house with private hot tub, pool, AC, & lovely views has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .

During your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
