Tricks and tips to get the best Buxton vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- To get the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local tours and attractions.
Make a plan and choose the rightrental home:
- Start by choosing your trip dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Oceanfront, Dog-Friendly House w\/ Free WiFi, Shared Pool, Ocean View, Central AC has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or might be applied to your contract.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Advice for a great stay:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Upon arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
