Vacation rental booking tips:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Hatteras area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Selecting the best rental home:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Ocean-view home with pool, hot tub, grill, decks & pool table has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
- If there's an individual Hatteras beach you simply love, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- During check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
