Vacation rental tips:
Getting the best rental home value:
- Summertime is high season in Buxton. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Hatteras vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area travel guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your search:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Ocean-view home with central AC, pool, & hot tub has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
