Toss our frisbees, fly our kites, compete in fierce cornhole tournaments, and express yourself with sidewalk chalk. We have comfortable Adirondack chairs for soaking in the rays, a Caldera hot tub/spa for sunset happy hour, a sheltered hammock for lazy days, and a telescope for those Milky Way nights.

Strategies to get the best vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your Hatteras rental home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning and choosing the bestvacation home:
- Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Charming OBX soundfront beach box with hot tub, game room, and stunning sunsets! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the host before you book the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
