Booking the best Hatteras vacation rental experience:
Get the best rental value:
- Book your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Selecting the perfect rental in the Hatteras area:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. In Due Tide: Semi-Oceanfront
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your vacation group.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
