Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation property experience:
When to visit Rodanthe & When to reserve a Rodanthe rental home:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. Reserve your Hatteras rental property in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Semi-Soundfront, Dog Friendly w\/ Pool, Hot Tub, Cmty Pool\/Tennis, + Sound Access has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs might be applied to your contract.
- Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
More tips for your visit:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
