Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer months are high season in Frisco. To get the best value, change your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by choosing your trip dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Dog-friendly House w\/Water View, Free WiFi, AC, Private Hot Tub has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
