Booking the best vacation property experience:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Summer is high season in the Hatteras area. Reserve your rental property in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning and choosing yourvacation home:
- First, have your family commit to date ranges and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Oceanside, Beach Access, Hot Tub, Dog Friendly, Rodanthe Pier Passes has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or might be applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
