How to get the best Hatteras rental home experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Hatteras area. Reserve your Hatteras vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectrental home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Kiteboarding & Surfing Destination The Boiler -co located with REAL Watersports has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to inspire more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
