Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental home experience:
How to get the best value:
- To find the best value, shift your family's Hatteras trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and choose the bestrental:
- First, have your group choose trip dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. 3-Bedroom, 2.5-Bathroom Penthouse Suite at REAL Watersports has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. If not, email the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's a certain Hatteras destination you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to propel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
