Waves vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Booking your Hatteras vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties.
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Choosing the best vacation rental:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Dog-friendly house with AC, W\/D, private pool, & hot tub has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
