Strategies to get the optimal Hatteras vacation property experience:
When to reserve a Hatteras rental & When to go:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the largest vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Hatteras attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to choose the best vacation rental:
- Start by choosing your a vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. \nGreat views, Kayak, Windsurf, Kiteboard, Fun! has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your agreement.
- If there's a certain Hatteras attraction you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
More considerations:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make certain damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Contact the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
