Rental booking tips:
When to book & When to go:
- To find the best value, try changing your family's Hatteras trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose and book a perfect Hatteras rental home:
- Choose dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Waterfront house with pool, hot tub, pool table, elevator & ocean view has 8 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If not, reach out to the property owner before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a particular Hatteras attraction you long to visit, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
