Rental home booking tips and tricks:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in Hatteras. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select your vacation week and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Warm and friendly home in beachfront property- pool, hot tub & central AC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible online. If not, contact the property manager before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your group is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Contact the property manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
