Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Hatteras vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Avon. To get the best value, change your family's Hatteras vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guides that include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- First, have your group commit to date ranges and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Oceanfront, Guest House, Hot Tub & Spacious Decks has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation family.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Tips for a smooth stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of concerns.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
