Tips to get the best vacation property experience:
Get the best rental home value:
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Summer months are high season in Avon. Reserve your rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Soundfront home, private dock, pool, hot tub, theater, kiteboarding haven ????? has 10 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before reserving the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your vacation group.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
During your stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
