Our top Vacation rental booking tips:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Sound-front vacation home w\/free WiFi, shared pool, central AC has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is right for your vacation group.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
