Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guides which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to select the best vacation rental:
- Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Waterfront house with private pool, hot tub, W\/D, &vocean view has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to propel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
