Tricks and tips to get the best rental experience:
When to visit Rodanthe & When to book:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Hatteras area. To find the best value, shift your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Filter your rental search:
- Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Soundfront\/0.3 mi to ocean\/3 K, 1 bunkbed\/private parking w\/i 500 ft ocean has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.

Tips to have a terrific stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
