How to get the best vacation home experience:
Getting the best value:
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Summer is high season in Rodanthe. To book the largest rental within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Hatteras attractions.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to select the best vacation home in the Hatteras area:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Semi-oceanfront\/pet friendly\/4 br - Mahalo House. Steps to beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Have a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
