How to get the best Rodanthe vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing and booking your Hatteras rental:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Sound-front home with private pool, hot tub, grill, outdoor shower, & water views has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a specific Hatteras destination you simply love, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
