Hatteras rental property booking tips:

How to get the best value:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hatteras restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.

How to choose and book your prefectrental home:

  • First, have your family select the best dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Pet friendly oceanside home on Hatteras Island with easy beach access! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • If there's a specific Hatteras destination you crave, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Call the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
