Finding the best rental home experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your vacation in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some owners offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guides which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing the best vacation home:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Dog-friendly oceanfront home with amazing view, multiple decks & pool access has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. Otherwise, contact the host before booking your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your family.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
