Strategies to get the best Hatteras vacation rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer months are high season in Avon. Book your rental home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Selecting and booking your prefectrental home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. 4 bedroom house with ocean view, private hot tub & pool access has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your family.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
