Our top Hatteras rental property booking tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- Summer time is high season in the Hatteras area. To find the best value, shift your family's Hatteras trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing and booking the rightvacation home:
- First and foremost, have your family choose vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Panoramic Views! 7BR - 8BA - Elevator- Pool - Hot Tub - Game Room - Theater has 7 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, email the host before you reserve the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is optimal for your family.
- If there's a specific Hatteras destination you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Tips for a smooth stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- To make sure no damages are linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas during arrival. Call the host immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
