The home is dog friendly and up to two furry friends will appreciate frolicking on the grassy lawn that surrounds the home, especially when a corn hole or bocce ball game is in progress. Also, on the ground level you’ll find an outdoor shower and a charcoal grille to prepare up your fresh catch later. On the first level, there is a queen master with an adjoining full bath. Appreciate access to the back deck where gentle breezes counter the afternoon sun for a enchanting respite. On this level, too, you’ll find a bright and airy great room with cozy furnishings providing a prime view of the wall-mounted 40-inch TV. Savor prepping meals in the generously equipped kitchen that the whole family can savor at an eight-person farm table as a ceiling fan whirs gently overhead, or outside at the picnic table on the screened-in porch. Two more bedrooms occupy the top level, one with a queen bed and one with two sets of single bunk beds that share a Jack-and-Jill bathroom. When to book a Hatteras rental home & When to go:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers.   • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is optimal for your trip.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a certain Hatteras beach you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • During arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
