OCEANFRONT Waves- O'Neal Road Be the 1st to catch the sun and surf at 1st WAVE, a luxury home boasting wide ocean frontage that will make you feel like #1! Located on a peaceful cul de sac, this gorgeously decorated home lends a boutique hotel feel. With bigger than average room sizes, this cavernous home welcomes families right from the start with many enchanting amenities. The ground floor is devoted to having fun in the game room with pool table and a wet bar with full-size refrigerator and microwave. There is also a king master bedroom plus kid-friendly bunk room and full bath close by. Step outside to the oceanfront pool area with Tiki bar and your own private beach path to the ocean. The second floor features an XL king master suite with private bath, another king master bedroom with private bath and two other roomy bedrooms (queen, 2 single) that share a half bath and a full hall bath. All bedrooms on this level have access to the generous deck with ample seating. Up on the top level is a second XL king master suite with private bath and access to the top deck with hot tub, along with the open and airy great room with a wall of windows framing a 1st class oceanfront view! A flat screen TV and stereo invite staying in for the evening while the kids play downstairs. The gourmet kitchen with gas stove, granite countertops, and breakfast bar will please the chef in your group and the screened porch enables dining al fresco. Cleanup is a breeze with two sinks and two dishwashers. Your family will be in 7th heaven with a vacation in 1st Wave!

Vacation Rental Protection Plan: This required non-returnable $95 plan covers accidental damage within the home with a coverage limit of $3,000. It does not cover theft or willful misconduct. How to get the best rental home value:

  • Summer is high season in Waves. To get the best value, try changing your family's Hatteras vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before you book the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If there's an individual Hatteras beach you long to visit, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
