Hatteras rental booking tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hatteras. To find the best value, try shifting your family's Hatteras vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guides which include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Premier Oceanfront Dog Friendly Home w\/ Pool, Hot Tub, Theater, Sound Boardwalk has 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If not, reach out to the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your contract.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
During your stay:
- Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
