Electronic amenities include four TVs, a DVD player, a stereo/CD player, complimentary long-distance calling, and high-speed WiFi for your laptop - although you'll find it hard to tear yourself away from those ocean breakers, visible from the top-level bedrooms, the sitting room, and the sundeck.

How to get the best Avon vacation home experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Summer months are high season in Avon. To get the most suitable rental within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Hatteras attractions and restaurants.
  • In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, management companies supply Hatteras area travel guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing the best rental:

  • Choose your dates and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Oceanfront, dog-friendly home with sundecks, great views, fast WiFi & pool has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your contract.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the host immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
