Strategies to get the very best Hatteras vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Hatteras vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to pick the best vacation rental:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Hot Tub, Dogs Welcome, Ocean Views, Easy Walk To The Beach! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Tips for a fantastic stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
