Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Hatteras vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- To find the best value, try shifting your family's Hatteras vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and pick your Hatteras rental:
- Start by having your family decide on a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Frisco Beach House! 4 lots back, Spring Specials has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a specific Hatteras destination you long to visit, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the rental manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
